Main Text –

Well here is the second in my series of houses and other lots. As with the first (titled Maison Chouette), this one also breaks some CFE rules … or a lot. I titled this house Gout de la Musique (The Taste of Music). As with Maison Chouette, if any world builders out there are looking for someone with whom to work in lot creation, I would be interested. I was originally going to try building an entire world, but alas the create a world tool is not for macs. After seeing and utilizing many of the wonderful housing and building creations on this site, including the beautiful Charlton Island where my sims currently reside, I thought maybe it was time to do something in return. Hence this series of what I … think… are unique houses.

Backstory –

In late 2004, eccentric billionaire Nore Negonc fell in love with a celebrated cellist and orchestra conductor, Caronie de Celoire. Though she did not return Nore’s feelings, he built a house in her honor where he would sometimes go to remind him of her otherworldly music. Thus was built Gout de la Musique.

Details –

Unlike Maison Chouette, the focus of this house was the actual structure. Thus the furnishing is minimal and mostly there to allow you to get a feel for what the house looks like furnished. There was also much less landscaping than Maison Chouette, but again if there is enough interest I would be glad to furnish and landscape fully. But as you can imagine, the actual structure of this house was the main feature and I focused most of my time there.

Here we see a side view of the entrance. The main entrance hall is in the guitar section, which leads to the piano section and the trombone swimming area. I will admit that the trees around the side are there to hide the huge void there. It was not until the second and third floors were almost done that I realized this bit could be covered with a ceiling. I imagine very few builders actually bother with ceilings (I usually just throw the same design into every room’s ceiling), but here they could be used to cover the sides. You can see on the second floor I did remember the ceiling before curving the sides and so you do not see the same thing here. Alas by the time I realized I could do this I would have had to redo the entire guitar to cover the sides of the base (since curved walls cannot be covered with floor or ceiling tiles after they have been curved). Overall it is not a huge issue and I think the trees work nicely here. As you will notice the inside still has the curved floors, it is just the outside that does not do curved ceilings. Again if there is enough interest, if I decorate the house fully, I might consider fixing this but as those of you familiar with CFE know, flattening the base will flatten all the floors above it and after this building, I could do without using guide walls for … a while lol.

The guitar actually has two more floors besides the main hall, however, the only way to access these floors is through an elevator. I did not build one however it should be easy enough for anyone with highrise knowledge to fit one in. There is another way for those without LN… you could also create a stairway to the second floor from the back but it creates this ridiculously long and ugly stairway there and it would likely take your sim a day to walk it.

Here is a cutaway of the entrance into the guitar. I threw instruments in there, which I thought was logical lol. What I liked about the high ceiling was that it created a sort of grandeur here since you could throw in ceiling lights as well and use the invisible wall lights to light the room. Here you can notice what I mentioned before, there are curved floors on the inside but not curved ceilings on the outside. This is why the trees edge into the walls a bit, but overall I liked the effect so I left it that way. You can also see the track to the door of the piano section. This door is next to the foot pedals so you do not necessarily need to enter the guitar first. Although there is also a door you can see here that leads from one to the other (see images below).

Here we can see another side view. The swimming area is in the form of… yeah you guessed it! A trombone lol. The two granite driveways are for the car area and the bike area.

A small note – I left all the walls and floors the same stone and wood designs because I imagined that is how the inside of these instruments would look. You can choose different wall coverings or floors though in almost everything. Some areas (the curved areas) require that you hold the shift key when doing so because it seems you can only refloor or rewall entire sections of curved areas rather than individual wall sections or tiles.

Cars and Bikes – Here is a side view of where the outdoor garage and bike area are.

First Floor – Aeriel view of the first floor. Starting from the lower left and going clockwise we can see the reduced height floor in the piano, used only for the stairs to the actual floor and the base of the guitar which houses the main entrance hall.

Ground Floor – Here we can see the ground floor from an angle. Starting from the lower left and going clockwise we have a natural fountain, the bike area, the flagstone track to the side door, the car area, the swimming area, and the flagstone track to the front door.

Roof Floor – Here is the view from above. Not much new to see here though.

Second Floor Close – Here is a closer look at the second floor. You can see the side door leads to the entrance hall of this section of the house while the door from the guitar leads to a smaller hallway.

Second Floor Cutaway – Here is a cutaway of the second floor so you can see a bit more detail.

Second Floor – Again starting from the bottom left clockwise you can see the living room, entrance hall, master bedroom, ensuite restroom, second bedroom, kitchen, dining room, side hallway, walkway to the guitar and second floor of the guitar (again this room could be furnished and used, it just requires an elevator.

Side View Guitar – Here is a look at the walkway between the two sections. You can build outdoor stuff here as well. I threw a swingset and some outdoor lights in to show you a bit of what it might look like.

Side View – A slightly better view of the side.

Side View from Above – A better side view of the guitar.

Third Floor Unused – A look at the inside of the third floor. I tried here to make the walls look like strings and did not furnish it for aesthetic reasons, but it is entirely usable and there is already a stairway that leads to it. You can even make the keys a balcony if you so wanted. Again the third floor area of the guitar is also usable, just requires an elevator. I already built a few windows here as you can see, but there are there just for show at the moment.
